4-H Hat
Which hat should I wear?
Junior 4-H members, defined as anyone in the eighth grade and below, wear
the green hat.
Senior 4-H members, defined as a 4-H member who has graduated from the
eighth grade, wear white hats.
Where do I put my stars, stripes, and medals?
Left Side:
- Current star rank
- Jr./Teen Leader emblem*
- Hi 4-H Patch*
*worn only while holding position as Jr./Teen Leader or in Hi 4-H
Right Side:
- Year stripe and pin for each 4-H year completed.
Stars: All-Star, gold, silver, or bronze star on left, front. Only the
current star rank held is worn on the hat.
Stripes:
- Junior members wear a white stripe on green background for that year.
- Jr. Leaders (7th, 8th, 9th grades) wear a gold stripe on green background
for that year.
- Senior members wear a green stripe with a white background for that
year.
- Teen Leaders (10th grade and up) wear a gold stripe on white background.
Year pins are fastened to the hat above the stripe, starting with the
first year pins next to the 4-H clover. The 100% attendance pin should
be fastened to the hat below the stripe of the year that the pin was
earned.
Medals may be worn on either side of the hat, but it is recommended that
they are on the left side of the hat. No other pin or ribbon should be
worn on the hat other than 4-H. The hat should reflect the dignity of
the 4-H Youth Program.
